Stoners of the World

‘Stoners of the World’ is a collection of portraits of individuals who consume marijuana and are not afraid to reveal their faces in the midst of America’s ongoing marijuana prohibition.

At the outset of the project, I found subjects through my network of friends. As news of the project spread, the connections through which participants were included expanded.

Each shoot follows a specific procedure. I meet each subject either in their private domestic space or in a public location that I feel is appropriate to them. I then engage in a smoke session with each subject in order to draw out their stoner personae. Each image contains allusions and objects which subtly reflect on specific attributes or interests of the subject. The result are portraits that are both humorous and sentimental and that reveal both my subject’s character and my perception of them.

Current State of the Project:

Due to Sandstorm Darude, I mean snowstorm Juno (dat ho), my camera has taken quite a bit of damage. I don’t have any money to get it fixed, so the project is currently on hold. In the meantime, I plan on revisiting my old subjects, and recording a video with them. I have also taken the project into the digital paint realm with it being called ‘Stoners of the World: UNCUT RAW’. All of these will be updated very shortly. Stay tuned, my young padawans.
